Working Together
Our product manufacturers are constantly working to develop and implement new and greener technologies into our product lines. They have committed to help preserve the environment while continuing to conduct business activities.

Our Environmental Commitments
Locally, we at Copier Fax Business Technologies are doing our part to run our business with the environment and our community in mind. All of our packaging material is recylced with local organizations. Even the foam that protects our machines as they are being shipped is reused; given to a recycling company that reforms it for new packaging or reuses it as insulation for construction projects.
All of our product manufacturers share the same line of thinking when it comes to business and the environment. Their goals and commitments are outlined as follows:
- Lessen the environmental impact at every stage of our products’ lifecycles.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions that derive from our business activities and the manufacturing and operation of our products.
- Advocate “Zero Waste Emission” activities; including initiatives for the recovery and recycling of end-of-life products and packaging materials.
- Prevent chemical pollution by minimizing the use of chemicals and reducing chemical discharge volume.
- Disclose environmental information and communicate potential risks.
- Promote Green Procurement: Using materials, parts and components from
suppliers that make a significant contribution to reducing the impact
on the environment.
In addition, Konica Minolta has set specific long-term and short-term company objectives:
- To reduce carbon dioxide levels by 20% across the lifecycle of our products by 2015.
- To reduce carbon dioxide levels by 80% across the lifecycle of our products by 2050.
New Product Technology: Saving Energy, Reducing Waste & Promoting Recycling
Konica Minolta Simitri HD Toner
Simitri HD toner uses smaller more uniform particles to improve detail and definition. This
advanced technology allows our bizhub multifunctional products to reduce toner consumption by more
that 30%. Because Simitri HD Toner fusing can take place at lower temperatures, power consumption
is also reduced. In addition, the production process that creates Simitri HD Toner generates 40%
less carbon dioxide.
New Fusing Technologies
The new fusing technologies also save energy and reduce warm-up time. The process of fusing toner
to paper typically accounts for 60% or more of a printer/copier’s power consumption. For example,
in the current bizhub C650 Series we employ a new Induction Heating system in its belt driven
fusing unit. This award winning technology heats only the surface of the roller, saving energy and
significantly reducing warm-up time. The bizhub C353 Series uses a newly developed fusing unit for
faster warm-up and lower energy consumption. These innovative technologies consume 30-40% less
energy compared with previous generation models, and will continue to be implemented in future
models.
Optimized Power Consumption
Our bizhub C650 Series and other models in our product line optimize power consumption for each
operating mode – controlling the flow of power to save energy wherever possible. For example, when
the bizhub C650 prints from a PC or receives a fax, the power supply is adjusted so that no
electricity is sent to the scanner or to other idle sections of the product.
100% Duplex Capability
Offer maximum efficiency in paper consumption. We provide standard or optional duplex capabilities,
Konica Minolta products give users the ability to print quickly on efficiently on both sides of
each sheet without compromising output speed. Maintaining high productivity while saving paper.
Toner Recycling System
In Konica Minolta’s Black and White MFPs, a sophisticated toner recycling system automatically
collects, recycles, and re-uses toner that is not fused to paper during the printing process. This
system saves approximately 20% of the toner for re-use – increasing efficiency and reducing your
operating costs.

Using Recyclable Plastics
All Konica Minolta toner bottles are made from HDPE High Density Polethene, identified by the
Society of the Plastics Industry as one of the two types of plastic that can be recycled most
economically. These toner bottles are designed to be collected and recycled at local facilities –
thus reducing fuel and gas required by shipping. 25% of the plastic used in toner bottles come from
recycled plastic. Do your part and drop them off at your local recycling facility or at the Copier
Fax downtown office!
Recycling Plastic Casing and Packaging Materials
To recycle and reuse as many materials as possible, our Konica Minolta products use the same two
types of plastic in outer casing parts for MFPs. The Konica Minolta recycling facilities recycle
100 tons of plastic each year, all coming from our recovered end-of-life products. We are also
working to reduce and recycle packaging materials. Here at Copier Fax Business Technologies – every
scrap of packaging is recycled: boxes, pallets, plastics, and packing foam.
Awards and Designations
- Energy Star: A joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Star is a voluntary labeling program designed to protect the environment through the identification and promotion of energy-efficient products and practices. The ENERGY STAR label may be found on many qualifying products from Konica Minolta, including our full-line of bizhub MFPs.
- Eco-Mark: Certification that a product has low environmental impact as recognized by the Japan Environmental Association.
- Blue Angel: The world's first environmental-protection label, introducted in Germany in 1978, certifies that products and services have low environmental impact.
- EcoLeaf: A program that quantitatively identifies and discloses the environmental impact of products throughout their lifecycle.
- ISO 14001 Certification: ISO 14001 certification is accredited third-party verification that provides a formal structure for environmental management. The requirements of ISO 14001 cover the main principles of professional management and are based on the cyclical process of plan, implement, check and review - intending to support environmental protection and prevention of pollution.
- Energy Conservation Grand Prize: Awarded to the bizhub C650 Series in 2007 by the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy within the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This prestigious honor recognizes companies whose achievements conserve energy and contribute to reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases responsible for global warming.
